Madam Mariamma Varkey Commemorative Debate for Teachers-2024: Celebrating Intellect and Legacy
The Third Edition of the Madam Mariamma Varkey Commemorative Debate for Teachers commenced with the profound acknowledgment of words' transformative power, echoed through Rene Descartes' timeless assertion, "Cogito, ergo sum" – 'I think, therefore I am'. Esteemed dignitaries, participants and GEMS teachers gathered to honour the enduring legacy of Madam Mariamma Varkey, a pioneering educationist.
Twenty eloquent orators from 10 GEMS Education schools convened for an intellectual duel, armed with diverse perspectives to challenge the status quo. Dr. Sangeeth Ibrahim, Senior Director and Head of the Financial Academy at the Department of Finance, Government of Abu Dhabi, expertly moderated the event. Judges, Ms. Annie Mathew, Principal of Little Flower School, Dubai, Ms. Nasreen Abdullah, Special Correspondent at Khaleej Times, and Mr. Shreya Onkar, an alumnus of OOB currently studying law, adjudicated the compelling arguments presented.
As impassioned rhetoric and persuasive arguments filled the venue, the forum became a gateway to erudite discussions and intellectual exploration. Ms. Gauhar of GEMS Legacy School, Dubai, and Ms. Vijayapriya of Our Own Sharjah Girls emerged victorious, exemplifying the essence of the debate. Second place was secured by Ms. Bhairavi (OOS) and Ms. Shilpa (OIS), with Ms. Cassandra (NMS) and Ms. Supreet (OOW) claiming the third position.
The event transcended boundaries, encouraging collaboration across schools and the exploration of new frontiers. In this spirit, Our Own Sharjah, Girls proudly clinched the Champions' rolling trophy, marking a triumph of intellect and collaboration.
The Madam Mariamma Varkey Commemorative Debate for Teachers stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of intellect and the power of words to shape beliefs and perceptions. Congratulations to all participants for an inspiring and intellectually stimulating event.
