Hag al-Laila, a cherished tradition in the UAE, celebrates the arrival of the full moon during the month of Sha'ban in the Islamic calendar. It is a time-honored event symbolizing community, culture, and generosity, where families and friends come together to exchange sweets and treats, fostering unity and joy.

The Hag al-Laila celebration at our school was a vibrant testament to the richness of Emirati culture and the spirit of camaraderie among our staff and students.

  • Event Highlights:

The festivities commenced with an inspiring inaugural speech by Mr. Abdlfattah and Ms. Hoda from the Arabic Department, eloquently conveying the significance of Haqq al-Laila and its integral role in the cultural tapestry of the UAE.

Ms. Shereen and her team serenaded the audience with a melodious song in Arabic, capturing the essence of Haqq al-Laila with their soulful rendition.

Attendees were treated to captivating performances of traditional Arabic dance, Rasfa, skillfully executed by a professional group, with even our male staff joining in the jubilant revelry.

The KG Department showcased their talent with an enchanting Egyptian traditional dance, adding a delightful flair to the celebration.

The ceremonious cake cutting ceremony, followed by the distribution of sweets & goodie bags to all departments, underscored the spirit of generosity and sharing inherent in the Hag al-Laila tradition.

The highlight of the event was the live cooking stall, organized by Ms. Sameera and her team, where attendees indulged in the delectable flavors of Luqaymat, a special Arabic dessert, further enhancing the culinary delights of the day.

The ambiance of the venue was adorned with Emirati heritage items, creating a captivating atmosphere that immersed attendees in the cultural richness of the region. A special shop featuring a variety of traditional candies, sweets, and treats delighted the guests, while Majlis seating arrangements fostered an environment of conviviality and warmth.

The event also served as an occasion to honor Ms. Sameera for her 25 years of dedicated service to GEMS Education, a testament to her unwavering commitment and contributions to our school community.

The Hag al-Laila celebration concluded on a poignant note with a heartfelt address by our Principal, Mr. Srivalsan Murugan, who lauded the success of the event and emphasized its importance in fostering cultural appreciation and unity among our staff.

As attendees enjoyed a sumptuous lunch, reflecting on the memorable moments shared during the festivities, it was evident that the Hag al-Laila celebration had not only enriched our school's cultural fabric but also strengthened the bonds of friendship and camaraderie among all who participated.
