8 Feb 2025

OOB Wins the 4th Edition of Madam Mariamma Varkey Commemorative Debate for Teachers 2025

The fourth edition of the prestigious Madam Mariamma Varkey Commemorative Debate for Teachers was held on 8th February 2025, hosted by GEMS Our Own Sharjah Girls. The event saw 21 participants from 11 GEMS schools, each engaging in a thought-provoking exchange of ideas that left a lasting impact on all present.

OOB emerged victorious, bringing home the coveted Champion's Trophy for the second time. Having first won the title in 2023 at OIS, OOB repeated history in 2025 at OOS, reinforcing their dominance in this intellectual battle of ideas.

A special shoutout to our outstanding debaters:

  • Ms. Naomi Seymes – Best Speaker (1st For the Motion)
  • Ms. Hajira Nazar – Best Speaker (1st Against the Motion)

Both delivered compelling arguments on the thought-provoking topic: "Emerging Technologies Enhance Staff Well-being." Their eloquence, research, and critical thinking set them apart, earning them well-deserved recognition.

The triumph of OOB in this prestigious debate underscores the school’s commitment to intellectual excellence and the empowerment of educators. As we celebrate this remarkable achievement, we eagerly anticipate carrying forward this legacy of dialogue, debate, and educational advancement, and we are excited about the opportunity to host the 5th edition in 2026.

Congratulations to Team OOB, Ms. Naoimi Seymes, and Ms. Hajira Nazar for their exceptional performance! Here’s to many more victories in the future!
